Actuarial career info

Professional Organizations

There are two main groupings of actuaries:  life actuaries and casualty actuaries.

  • Life actuaries deal with insurance products for life events, such as health insurance, life insurance, and retirement annuities.  The professional organization for this group of actuaries is the Society of Actuaries (SOA).
  • Casualty actuaries deal with insurance products for non-life events, such as auto insurance and home-owners insurance.  The professional organization for this group of actuaries is the CasualtyActuary Society (CAS).
