2016-2017 Upward Bound Academic Workshops and Events

Fall 2016 Semester

  • Sun. September 25: Not a specific UB-sponsored event, but students & parents are encouraged to attend the Golden Circle College Fair, Hy-Vee Hall, Des Moines
  • Sat. October 1: Academic Workshop, held at Central College, Pella
  • Thurs. October 13: Iowa TRIO Student Leadership Conference, held at Central College, Pella (2016-17 Student Advisory Board members, and summer 2016 Emerging Leaders and Rising Stars are invited to attend)
  • Tues. October 25: An Evening with Adam Carroll, held at Central College, Pella (Senior students & parents are invited to attend)
  • Sat. November 5: Academic Workshop, held at Central College, Pella
  • Sat. December 3: Academic Workshop, held at Central College, Pella

Spring 2017 Semester

  • Sat. February 25: Academic Workshop, held at Central College, Pella
    • It will be re-scheduled for Sat. March 4. Same times/activities will apply.
  • Sat. March 4: Academic Workshop, held at Central College, Pella
    • Due to bad weather resulting in the cancellation of the Feb. 25 workshop, we will hold a new event on Sat. March 4.
    • All transportation times and activities will be the same as stated for Feb. 25.
  • Sat. April 29: New Student/Parent Orientation for summer 2017
    • Mandatory standardized testing for new summer 2017 participants and/or make-up testing for returning students who missed the March 4th event.
    • Orientation activities (grade 9)
    • Campus tour (all)
    • Lunch in Central Market
    • Central College admissions presentation (for parents of grades 10/11 students)
  • Mon. May 22: Summer 2017 Final Details Presentation for all new & returning students and parents
    • 2 locations offered
      • East HS, Commons @ 5:30 p.m., led by Assistant Director, Kelly Kowzan
      • Oskaloosa HS, Library @ 5:30 p.m., led by Director, Louise Esveld
