How To: Change Your Password


If you would like to change the password associated with your account, there are a few possible ways to do so.

If you have not registered your account on password.central.edu you should do so. Click here for instructions

NOTE: If you forgot your password, you can visit password.central.edu to reset your password. If you have not gone through the registration process for the password portal, you answer two key questions before you may gain access to change your password.

By using any Central College-owned computer running Windows:

If you are signed into a college-owned machine running Windows, changing your account password is quick and easy.

    1. Log into your account as usual, on any college-owned Windows PC.
    2. Once logged in, press Ctrl, Alt, and Delete.  When you see the screen shown below, click on “Change a password…”

  1. At the next screen, you will see your username in place of “userx1” shown here.  In the following boxes, enter your old password followed by your new password.  Type in your new password a second time to confirm the change. The new password must be a minimum of 12 characters, may not be one used in the past, or similar to one used in the past or contain your name. Also, it must be made up of 3 of the 4 types of character groups: lower case letters, upper case letters, numbers or special characters.

Your password should now be changed for all associated services, including your email account, myCentral, and Blackboard. Passwords expire on an annual cycle.

NOTE: If you connect your account on a mobile device (for instance, to use email), you will also need to make sure to change your password on your device for both Wi-Fi and email.

By using the Central College password portal:

All users are able to change their password via the Central College password portal.

Changing your password

  1. Go to password.central.edu
  2. Enter in your username
  3. Provide your current password and click “Set Password.”
  4. Provide a new password consisting at least 12 characters, and  contain 3 of the following groups: lower case letters, upper case letters, special characters, and numbers. You also cannot use a password that you have used in the past, a similar previous password, or a password containing your name.

NOTE: If you connect your account on a mobile device (for instance, to use email or to connect to Wi-Fi), you will also need to make sure to change your password on your device.

Forgot your password?

  1. Go to password.central.edu
  2. Enter your username and click “Forgot Password”
  3. Under “Recovery Actions Available” select “Reset Forgotten Password” and click continue.
  4. Under “Authentication Types Available” choose 1 of those options and click continue.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to provide a new password. The new password must consist of at least 12 characters, and  contain 3 of the following groups: lower case letters, upper case letters, special characters, and numbers. You also cannot use a password that you have used in the past, a similar previous password, or a password containing your name.

NOTE: If you connect your account on a mobile device (for instance, to use email), you will also need to make sure to change your password on your device.
