Recollections: Objects of Memory

The work of Nadine Saylor is exhibited in the Mills Gallery through September 23. An artist’s reception will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, September 22 in the Mills Gallery. Her glass work investigates the rise and fall of the American economy while preserving its history in glass. “I like to think of my work as a time capsule that begins with a photograph or an antique,” Saylor explains. “I then transform it into a larger-than-life glass icon.” Her work is a recollection of the past, bringing attention to how we have changed as humans and how much technology has transformed our lives.
Saylor currently serves as Assistant Professor of Glass at University of Nebraska Kearney and is originally from Pennsylvania where she studied photography at the local Community College in Harrisburg. She received her MFA in Sculpture/Dimensional Studies from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in New York. She has taught glass workshops at the Pittsburgh Glass Center, “Harbourfront Centre” in Toronto, “The Studio” at the Corning Museum of Glass, and Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina. She has won many awards as an artist including Glass Artist of the Year in Cincinnati and was a finalist for the Niche Award in Philadelphia. Her work has been published in Ohio Magazine, The Urban Glass Art Quarterly, and The Glass Art Society Journal.
