Internships/Study Abroad

A key to the consistently outstanding career successes that our graduates have enjoyed, and one of the most important aspects of the Political Science program at Central, is the high degree to which our students take advantage of the College’s excellent offerings for study abroad and career-related, experiential learning via internships. Beginning with freshman advising and continuing on thereafter, we work one-on-one with our students to plan for and help arrange these opportunities.

Political Science students have always been among the highest participators in study abroad, averaging well-above the College average. Many have gained life-changing, career-shaping experiences through internships abroad, particularly via our London Program, through the Parliamentary Internships option.

Because of the reputation for integrity, reliability, motivation, and high quality of the work done by our students, we have been able to offer such opportunities again and again, not only in London but also as part of study abroad in Merida, Paris, Granada, Vienna, and Leiden. We place students in governmental positions, with international organizations, including the United Nations, and in a wide variety of NGOs, based on their individual interests and abilities. The same applies to internship opportunities for Political Science students in Washington, D.C. and at the State Capital in Des Moines.
